Our family winery with more than 100 years of experience in Chile is managed by its fourth generation
DON LORENZO REUS MARTI
Spanish man from a family of winemaking tradition from the island of Mallorca. He and his brothers, Bartolomé and Jerónimo, adventure themselves to Chile and together they open a liquor business in the early 19th. Later in 1917, Lorenzo Reus got married with Carmen Grimalt Roselló, from this marriage born their three sons: Pedro, Catalina and Carmen Reus Grimalt.
SANTA CATALINA WINERY IS FOUNDED
Don Lorenzo’s brothers went back to Mallorca due to the illness of one of them. Don Lorenzo stayed in Chile and with his visionary and entrepreneurial spirit established a wine cellar in Vicuña Mackenna 1188 street, just a few steps from the city center of Santiago and founded the Santa Catalina Winery.
A Successful Business
During this period, Santa Catalina Winery became one of the most prestigious wineries of the winegrowers companies of the Chilean market. Don Lorenzo not only was a successful wine business man, he also was a very important contributor to the country. In 1964, he died leaving a great legacy for his family.
The Reus brothers decided to divide their heritage. After that, the company belongs to Carmen Reus Grimalt and the administration of the winery is in charge of Arturo Urquiaga Luzar. From 1990, Raimundo Urzúa Pérez assumed the general management of the company. He is the spouse of Inés Amparo Urquiaga Reus, granddaughter of don Lorenzo.
New Wine Cellars and Vineyards
During this period, the company acquired a wine cellar with 6 million of wine capacity in Curicó and some vineyards in Alto Jahuel, keeping their importance in the national market. On the other hand, the company started new businesses in the foreign markets, exporting wines to China and South America.
The Company, about to accomplish 100 years, reinvents itself and explores the tourism and events businesses with a unique and renewed events venue in the middle of the vineyards of Alto Jahuel. The property and the administration of the business are managed by the Urzua Urquiaga family, the fourth generation of Don Lorenzo Reus Martí.
Santa Catalina winery was founded in Santiago in 1922 and is one of the oldest wine producers in Chile and South America.
